The Elk River girls had five of the top 13 runners as they won the St. Francis Invitational for the fifth straight year on Thursday.
Led by Rachel Ness in second place, the Elks scored 42 points, with St. Paul Highland Park next at 64 among eight teams.
Rachel King of St. Michael-Albertville was first into the chute with a time of 15:54. Ness was next in 15:54.
Kennedy Warner placed sixth (16:18), Maria Brown ninth (16:28), Kaylee Erdahl 12th (17:00) and Gaby Jung 13th (17:03) for the Elks’ other counting scores.
Coach Mike Niziolek noted that two JV runners earned spots in the team’s top-ten list for the Roy Griak Invitational with their times Thursday. Seventh-grader Annika Carr won the JV race in 16:50 and xxx Rachel Dorf was third in 17:02. The JV race was 4,000 meters, same as varsity.
Next for the Elks is the Milaca Mega Meet on Saturday, Sept. 21.
