Tennis: Clutch doubles play lifts Rogers over Princeton 4-3

The Rogers Royals won the third set in all three doubles matches and edged the Princeton Tigers 4-3 in a Mississippi 8 match at home Tuesday.

Princeton won at 1-2-3 singles, all in straight sets, with Mary Claire staying unbeaten at No. 1. Sydney Livingston salvaged No. 4 for Rogers with a 6-0, 6-0 win.

The Rogers doubles sweep included Julia Sporer and Rachel Dodd staying unbeaten at No. 1.

“Our conference is very competitive with new teams this year — Princeton, Chisago Lakes, North Branch, and St. Francis,” said Royal coach Debbie Conley.  “Each match is a challenge and we try to improve from one match to the next.”

The Royals, 2-1 in the Mississippi 8 and 6-2 overall, will host Big Lake on Thursday.
