Guardian Angels and the Elk River Lions have partnered on a pair of events they have rolled together in hopes of creating health and wellness extravaganzas for years to come.
Guardian Angels is hosting a Health Walk and Roll to celebrate the upcoming first anniversary of Club GA, the wellness center at Guardian Angels.
The 2K walk and roll will start with warm-up stretches and exercise in the Club GA parking lot at 350 Evans Ave. NW before participants make their way to Lion’s Park in Elk River.
The Elk River Lions have agreed to come alongside with a corn feed and family health and wellness expo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the whole community at Lions Park in Elk River.
Deb Weston, of Guardian Angels and president of the Elk River Lions, said it’s an exciting partnership to address a real concern in the community about health and wellness.
“We’re not following through on what we know,” Weston said.
The family health and wellness expo will try to provide a spark to change that for local families.
David Vega, a physical therapist from Pro Rehab, will speak on the benefits of exercise for all ages.
There will be a jump rope contest and prizes, as well as free blood pressure screening, nutrition and exercise education provided by the Faith Community Nurse Program, sponsored by Mercy and Unity Hospitals and Allina Health.
Coborn’s Natural Foods will have a booth with healthful samples to give away. The corn feed will offer corn on the cob, hot dogs, chips, bottled water and ice cream. Those who pay the $5 registration fee for the 2K walk will be fed. Guests will be able to buy the food.
