Elk River gave up the last two goals of the game and lost their conference opener to Andover 3-2 at home on Tuesday evening.

The Elks led 2-1 at halftime on goals by Logan Daulton and Madyson St. Germain, both off passes from the left sideline from Brianna Anderson.

Andover scored on a corner kick late in the first half, then tied the score and pushed ahead with goals in the 50th and 71st minute, each by running in front of the Elks for clear shots.

“We lost possession of the middle of field in the second half,” said Elk coach Brian Steuter. “We did not hold the middle. They would turn on us defensively and we’d get disorganized and they’d get two-on-one’s down the middle.”

It was the first win for Andover (1-3), which had been outscored 18-4 in three games.

Daulton got a her fifth goal of the season on a header, out-leaping a defender in the mouth of goal to get her head on Anderson’s perfect crossing pass. St. Germain scored on a give-and-go move with Anderson.

The Elks play again Wednesday at Anoka, 4 p.m., followed by the boys at 6 p.m.
