The Zimmerman Thunder shook off a slow start and defeated the Princeton Tigers 25-19, 20-25, 25-17, 25-16 in the volleyball opener Thursday evening.

It was a successful debut for new head coach Cassandra Olson, former assistant to Rita Belka, who resigned.

Princeton took a quick 10-0 lead on the serving of junior outside hitter Jaydee Green. After a Zimmerman timeout, the hosts went on a 23-4 run, thanks to some powerful serving of their own, most notably senior Brooke Borchardt, and won 25-19.

After losing the second game, the Thunder closed it out with two solid games.

Serving two aces each were Antolak, Ortberg and Christopherson. Catherine Lewandowski made seven digs, Olivia Zachar six and Ortberg five.

The Thunder will play at Rockford on Tuesday.
