Since 1949, she’s volunteered ‘because it was needed’

Lois Lundemo has been volunteering in the Elk River community since 1949, helping a variety of organizations and causes.

“I just did it because it was needed,” she said after being honored as the city of Elk River’s Volunteer of the Month for August.

Lundemo was one of the organizers of the Little Dresses for Africa, a group of women who meet at the Elk River Activity Center to sew dresses for young African girls.

She also has been involved with Britches for Boys Around the World. In addition, she sews baby quilts for CAER and Caring and Sharing Hands and knits hats for Senior Knitters of Bloomington.

Some of her past volunteer activities include:

•many different volunteer activities at St. Andrew’s Church.

•served in several capacities for the American Red Cross.

•Very active in the Guardian Angels Care Center Auxiliary.

•Past president and active member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Her past awards for volunteerism include the Elk River Rotary Club’s Paul Harris Fellowship, Elk River Legion Americanism Award and the 1,000 volunteer hours award from Guardian Angels Care Center. She also was nominated for the Elk River City Volunteer of the Year.

She was honored by the Elk River City Council on Aug. 19.
