Elk River City Administrator Cal Portner came away with high marks in his first performance review with the Elk River City Council.
“The council concluded that, in all categories, Cal has met or exceeded expectations. The council is extremely happy with his first 18 months here,” Mayor John Dietz read in a statement at the Aug. 5 council meeting.
The council held a closed meeting July 15 to evaluate Portner’s job performance. The council is required by state law to summarize its conclusions at the next open council meeting.
Portner joined the city of Elk River in October 2011. He is an Air Force veteran and worked for Congressman Jim Ramstad before launching his career in city government. Prior to coming to Elk River, Portner was the administrative services director at the city of Plymouth.
