Elk River will celebrate the opening of its newest park — Bailey Point Nature Preserve — on Wednesday, Aug. 14. The grand opening begins at 5 p.m. at the park, located at 1 Morton Ave.
There will be a ribbon cutting and the unveiling of a sign. Members of the Bailey family might attend.
Elk River Mayor John Dietz said the parking lot has been installed, a new gate has been put in, and volunteers have been working in the area.
“It’s a really nice-looking park,” he said.
The 23-acre parcel was acquired by the city last November. It is located west of downtown, where the Mississippi and Elk rivers meet.
The point includes more than 3,300 feet of shoreline along the two rivers.
