Baseball: Kaminski’s five RBI help Pioneers beat Hamel 13-3 in playoff opener

Corey Kaminski drove home five runs with back-to-back triples as the Elk River Pioneers rolled past the Hamel Hawks 13-3 in their playoff opener on Friday evening.

The Pioneers, 15-9 with thee wins over Hamel, will take on the Anoka vs. Albertville winner on Sunday at 4:45 p.m. in St. Michael, where the whole Region 6B tournament is being held.

Kaminsky, the Pioneer second baseman, hit a long triple to right field with bases loaded in the third inning to cap a five-run burst. He tripled again in the fifth to knock in two more runs and finished 2-for-5.

Brien Geerdes was 3-for-5 with a run and RBI; Lance Johnson 2-for-4 with a double, three runs and an RBI; Sam Krick 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs; Porter Morrell 2-for-2 with two walks and an RBI; and Tucker Morrell 2-for-4.

Josh Juntunen pitched six innings, giving up three runs, to pick up his sixth win. Tucker Morrell pitched the final two innings. The game was shortened due to the 10-run rule when Porter Morrell singled home a run to make it 13-3.
