An open house showing off the spacious new addition to Elk River’s maintenance facility was held on July 31.
The facility at 19000 Proctor Road has been expanded by 67,000 square feet. The existing maintenance garage was only 20,000 square feet.
The original space houses park maintenance equipment, and the new quarters provide the streets department with enough room to bring all of its machines out of the cold and into a heated garage to be stored, protected and worked on when need be.
Street department workers commented on the days of having to move several machines before getting into one you needed for a job are gone. That will be appreciated even more come winter, crew members told the Star News.
More than 500 people attended the event, and five full recycling bins of food for were collected and donated to Community Aid Elk River, the local food shelf.
