Baseball: Howard Lake nips Pioneers 1-0; Hendrickson fans 14

A pitching gem by Ben Hendrickson went for naught as the Elk River Pioneers lost to Howard Lake 1-0 on Friday evening in Howard Lake.

Hendrickson struck out 14 batters in six innings but gave up a the only run of the game on two singles and a stolen base in the second. He allowed five hits. Vince Hardie had the RBI.

Jim Brown pitched two scoreless innings as the duo combined for a six-hitter.

Elk River (14-8) left 10 runners on base and had a five-game win streak snapped. They will close the regular season against Minneapolis Angles  on Tuesday at Loretto, 7:30 p.m.

Adam Koch got the win, firing six shutout innings, allowing two hits and four walks, striking out eight. Jordan Jeseritz pitched the seventh and eighth and Dan Streich overcame two walks to pitch a scoreless ninth for the save. They combined for a two-hitter.

Josh Juntunen (1-for-4) and Brown (1-for-2) had the hits for Elk River.
