Parker taking on new look

Contractors who were itching to get into Parker Elementary School for a $5.9 million remodeling project said they are on target to complete the project in time for the start of school, according to Parker Elementary School Principal Mike Malmberg.

When school opens in the fall, the K-5 building will be more secure thanks to closed classrooms, a vestibule at the entrance of the front of the school and repositioned front offices. There are many other changes, too.

Malmberg has been giving tours of the school, which tourists say has already taken on an entirely new look with what has been done so far.

The kitchen, cafeteria are being worked on, but for right now the gym is a warehouse for cabinets.

Once open classrooms are now being remodeled into closed classrooms to limit the number of distractions to the school day and provide the ability for the school to be locked down.
