On a steamy, exhausting evening, the Elk River Pioneers coasted to a 10-3 win over Abertville there Wednesday by limiting mistakes while the Villains made several.
The Pioneers (11-7) made no errors, while Albertville suffered seven errors and gave up nine walks, in a game played in 90-degree heat.
Josh Juntunen labored 4 2/3 innings for the win in the seven-inning game, allowing three runs, striking out seven. Kam Crandall pitched 1 1/3 innings and Lance Johnson one inning, each scoreless.
Juntunen was also 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Brien Geerdes was had a double and three walks, scoring three times. Cory Kaminski delivered an RBI single, knocking in Brandon Meyer, who had doubled.
Taking the loss was Brad Koltes, giving up six runs (just one earned) in two innings. Brian Dietz pitched four innings, giving up four runs.
Elk River will take on East Bethel on Friday evening in St. Francis, and will host Hamel again Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
