The National School Public Relations Association has announced the Elk River Area School District is the recipient of four national awards.
Three of the four awards are the highest publications and electronic media recognitions bestowed upon educational public relation professionals throughout the nation.
There were a total of 894 entries in this year’s contest. The district’s Communications and Marketing Department earned three Awards of Excellence for the 2012-13 calendar, the E-Connection (external online newsletter) and Staff Happenings (internal online newsletter). The department also won an Award of Merit for the 2013-14 kindergarten registration guide.
Only nine school districts received the Award of Excellence for annual calendars, eight for external newsletters and 13 for internal newsletters. Only two other Minnesota school districts were recognized for Awards of Excellence. A total of 33 districts, including one other Minnesota district, will receive Awards of Merit for special purpose publications.
The Elk River Area School Board, at the recommendation of the District 728 administration, voted in April to eliminate two of the three positions in the Communications and Marketing Department. The former Community Education marketing coordinator and manager of communications were cut.
