Aaron Pipenhagen and Josh Juntunen combined for a three-hitter and Sam Krick homered as the Elk River Pioneers topped the Hamel Hawks 5-3 three Wednesday evening.
Juntunun got the victory with a 3 2/3 inning relief stint allowing one hit and one run, striking out three. Pipenhagen, the starter, had five strikeouts while allowing two runs (one earned) in 3 1/3 frames.
Krick hit a solo homer and finished 2-for-3 plus a walk, stolen base and two runs. The Pioneers had seven hits in the seven-inning game. Harley Thompson singled in the seventh and scored on a ground out to give the Pioneers a 5-2 lead.
Maris Blanchard drove home all three Hamel runs with a two-run double and a sacrifice fly. Hawk starter Dominic Flemming threw four strong innings, allowing one run (the Krick homer). Nate Hysic took the loss in relief.
Elk River (9-6) will play at Anoka on Saturday at 5 p.m.
