A two-run double by  Jordan Hollom helped Elk River Legion open a five-run lead and the Elks held on to defeat the Sartell Sabres 9-7 at home Tuesday evening.

The Elks, up 6-4, loaded the bases in the fifth, got one run on a wild pitch, and two more when Hollon ripped a double down the left-field line.

Sartell trimmed the 9-4 lead to 9-7 with three runs off reliever Erik Nyquist in the seventh but he left two men on bases with a ground out to end the game.

The Elks broke a 4-4 tie in the fourth with back-to-back sac flies by Sam Wirz and Mylo Hommes.

Nyquist was 2-for-2 plus three walks, scored two runs and drove home two. He pitched 2 1/3 innings, giving up three runs. Joey Hudson worked the first 4 2/3 innings, giving up four runs, and got the win. Alex Babcock was 2-for-3.

Next for the Elks (7-4) is the Delano tournament July 3-6.
