Baseball: Pioneers blank Quamba 6-0 for third place in Rum River tourney

Josh Juntunen pitched five strong innings as the Elk River Pioneers blanked the Quamba Cubs 6-0 and claimed third place in the Rum River Tournament in Sunday.

Juntunen gave up just one hit and struck out seven to pick up the win in the seven-inning game at Cambridge. Ben Hendrickson closed with two more goose-eggs, giving up two hits and striking out three.

Aaron Pipenhagen was 2-for-3 and Porter Morrell 2-for-4 for the Pioneers, each notching a run and an RBI. Also delivering RBI’s were Tucker Morrell and Jim Brown.

Zach Henderson took the loss for Quamba.

The Pioneers (8-6) beat Nowthen 8-1 and lost to Bloomington Bandits 8-0 on Saturday.

The Pioneers have no more games until July 10 when they host Hamel. On this week’s schedule is the North Star League all-star game on Wednesday at Maple Lake, 7:30 p.m.
