City honors state championship team

Elk River’s state champion softball team was honored at the June 17 Elk River City Council meeting.

Mayor John Dietz congratulated the team members. He told them he had watched some of their games and said they played with passion, enthusiasm and pride. He also commended coach Stacey Sheetz.

Sheets thanked the city for recognizing the team, saying: “It’s a very cool thing.” She also thanked her assistant coaches, the parents and the members of the team for their dedication.

“These girls are amazing and wonderful and work so hard,” she said.

“It was just really fun and I couldn’t have been more proud to be an elk.”

The team members and their coaches each received a Powered by Nature cap, a city of Elk River pen and an iPad wipe.
