Death investigation of two underway by county, medical examiner

A 911 call on June 14 reporting that a Clear Lake Township man had shot his wife and was threatening to shoot himself led to a standoff between SWAT team members from Sherburne County, the Elk River Police Department and the Anoka County Sheriff’s Department and the man.murder_crime_scene.350w_263h

The Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office and the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office are now investigating deaths of two individuals, including the  man who had threatened to commit suicide, according to Sheriff Joel Brott.

Authories were called to the home in the 12300 block of 77th St. in Clear Lake Township just before 1:30 p.m. Brott said woman reported that she had spoken with an acquaintance who had told her he had shot his wife and was threatening to shoot himself.

Officers arrived and were able to make contact with the subject, Christopher Norrbom, 47 of Clear Lake, by telephone. A standoff ensued, and tactical teams from three departments assembled on the scene.

Negotiations broke down with Norrbom, however.

SWAT officers were able to make limited entry into the attached garage where they discovered the body of Janell Norrbom, 47, also of Clear Lake.

Entry into the home was made at 6:41 p.m. and the deceased body of Christopher Norrbom was found inside the residence.

Officers from the State Patrol, Becker Police, and St. Cloud Police also assisted the sheriff’s office.
