Saturday, June 22, is set for the first Michaela Olson Memorial Ride and Dine fundraiser, a one-day community event to raise awareness regarding the silent and sometimes deadly fungus, histoplasmosis, that suddenly took the life of Michaela Olson at age 16 on July 1, 2012, and to raise funds to sponsor youth mission trips for families that otherwise could not afford to let their children participate.
A motorcycle ride will begin at Zylstra Harley Davidson in Elk River and will end at Liberty Restaurant/American Legion in St. Michael where the restaurant is sponsoring a spaghetti dinner. Several raffle items, including a trip to Cancun will be part of the benefit. Registration for the ride will be held from 10:30-11:45 a.m. at Zylstra Harley Davidson. The ride will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Cost is $10 and includes dinner. The spaghetti dinner at the Legion will be held from 4-7 p.m. Cost for dinner is $10. Raffle tickets will be sold until 6:45 p.m. and the drawings will begin at 7 p.m. To learn more about Michaela and this event, visit www.welovemichaela.com.
