Ben Hendrickson made his fourth strong start and picked up his first win Saturday as the Elk River Pioneers defeated Champlin Park 4-2 at Hales Field.
Hendrickson gave up a two-run single to Vern Bruns in the first inning but blanked the visitors from the second through seventh innings, striking out 11 and allowing just one more hit.
Jim Brown finished with two shutout innings for his first save. Brown got the win in each of Hendrickson’s first three starts as the Pioneers won those games late.
Aaron Pipenhagen was 3-for-5 and knocked in two runs for the Pioneers. Lance Johnson singled home a run, and Porter Morrell swiped home for the other run when Champlin tried a pickoff at first base.
The Pioneers (4-1) will play at Isanti on Monday, 7:30 p.m.
