Friends of the Kelley Farm invite the public for an afternoon of art June 15 at the Oliver H. Kelley Farm, off Highway 10 in Elk River, where patrons may tour the grounds and create paintings on canvas to be brought home.

Kelley Farm supporter Kristen Schrader, who joined the board of directors last December, was one of the volunteers to tell her colleagues about the Paint Pub, of Maple Grove, where professional instructors guide patrons through the art of painting while they can enjoy a sandwich or salad with wine, beer or another beverage as they put their brushes to canvas.

Paint Pub instructors have hit the road for some of their classes, and, indeed, they have agreed to visit the Kelley Farm from 2 to 4:30 p.m. June 15 where they will provide the day’s students each with a 16-by-20-inch canvas for painting a barn scene, fitting for the farm.

The program is open to new and skilled painters of all ages, but the Paint Pub requires a registration fee of $35 per person that will cover the canvas and other art supplies. Friends of the Kelley Farm will receive a portion of all fees in support of the 1860s farm operations.

The Friends will provide the day’s nourishment in the form of light hors d’oeuvres, and cash bar service will be available for adults age 21 and over.

Guests may register and reserve spaces for June 15 by visiting  HYPERLINK “”, or register by phone at 612-747-2334.

The painting students may arrive as early as 1 p.m., to allow them time for visiting the gardens, the animals and other attractions of the Oliver H. Kelley Farm, at 15788 Kelley Farm Road.

“We think it would be fun for them, if they have never been there before, to see what the Kelley Farm is all about,” Schrader said.
