Elk River socked two more home runs in their second state tournament game Thursday, beating Forest Lake 9-3 to advance to the state championship game set for Friday in North Mankato.
The Elks already led 4-1 when Michaela Bruns belted a solo homer in the fourth inning, and 6-3 when Jayme Langbehn broke the game open with a three-run blast in the sixth.
The Elks (20-3) had won their first game 2-1 over Orono when Kathi Opsahl led off the last of the seventh with a home run that knotted the score 1-1, and Langbehn followed with a double and scored with two outs on an error. (Story posted earlier.)
Elk River, which won the state title in their last appearance, 2009, will meet Prior Lake for the Class 3A title Friday at 2 p.m. at Casswell Park.
Anna Pipenhagen pitched the distance for the second straight game, with just one rough inning.
Bruns also had an RBI double. Delivering RBI singles were Jess Neuman, Pipenhaen and Courtney Jenson.
An expanded story and photographs will be added later tonight.
