The Spectrum Sting won their first-ever playoff game 9-6 over Maranatha Christian Academy on Monday, and moved into the double-elimination phase of the Section 4A tournament.
The No. 11 seeded Sting led 8-1 after four innings and held on against No. 6 seeded Maranatha at Brooklyn Center.
Jake Mitchell pitched six innings, striking out eight batters, to get the win. Jordy Ildvad pitched the seventh, striking out two.
Ildvad was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Tristen Rosby was 2-for-4 with a stolen base.
The Sting (7-4), a first-year solo team previously paired with PACT, will meet No. 3 seeded St. Agnes on Tuesday at Midway Stadium in St. Paul.
