The Zimmerman Thunder lost twice in Section 5AA play on Friday, after advancing with two wins previously.
The Thunder finished 15-6 with just three senior starters, one of them injured.
“It was a great turnaround and a good season for a young team,”said coach Emily Zahn.
After opening with a 10-0 win over Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted on Tuesday at home, the Thunder beat Maple Lake 8-6 on Thursday in Maple Lake. Ashley Pool pitched the distance and had an 8-1 lead heading into the seventh when the Irish came alive with several hits.
Becker blanked the Thunder 7-0 on Friday at Watertown-Mayer’s field. Pool took the loss, giving up seven runs, and McKenna Butau pitched the final 1 1/3 innings.
Annandale ousted Zimmerman 2-1 later Friday with Butau, an eighth-grader, pitching the distance in a solid effort. Gabby Antolak and Ashley Ryding were each 2-for-3.
“Our bats never quite got going and we had a few base running errors that hurt us,” said Thunder coach Emily Zahn about the loss to Annandale.
