Baseball: Stein, Big Lake subdue Pioneers 4-1

Big Lake and right-hander Ross Stein handed the Elk River Pioneers their first loss 4-1 on Monday in Big Lake.
Stein limited the Pioneers to three hits while striking out five. He walked three and hit three. The Elks had two of the hits in the third inning to tie the game 1-1 as Joe Santiago singled and eventually scored on Corey Kaminski’s single.
Aaron Pipenhagen pitched six innings and took the loss, walking six and giving up five hits. He gave up four runs, three unearned, and struck out five. Kam Crandall and Jim Brown pitched one inning each.
Josh Ledin delivered a two-run double for Big Lake and Matt Loegering had an RBI single.
The Pioneers (2-1) will have their first home game Saturday vs. Anoka at 5:30 p.m.
