Tennis: Elks top Andover 7-0, head for sectionals Monday

The Elk River tennis team beat Andover 7-0 in their playoff opener and final home match on Saturday.

“Andover had improved from when we played them earlier in the year,” said coach Randy Ronning,  “and it made for a fun and competitive match.”

Josh Gearou at No. 1 cruised 6-0, 6-0 over an all-conference, four-year starter, Grant Johnson.

The Elks, 21-1 and ranked No. 2, advance to Section 7AA Monday and Tuesday in Hibbing.

Elks have seven all-conference

Seven Elks made the all-conference team announced this week. They are Josh Gearou, Sam Gearou and Josh Chuba each for the fourth time, and  Nathan Chanthamontry, Logann Burns, Joe Wetherille, and Noah Steichen  for the first time.  Honorable mention were Jordan Haack and Nick Tran.
