Softball: Elks seeded 2nd in sectional, open Monday at home

The Elk River softball teamĀ  is seeded No. 2 among 12 teams for the Section 8AAA tournament and will open at home on Wednesday.

Bemidji (16-3) got the top seed based on QRF rating (won-lost and strength of schedule) with the Elks (14-3) second, Alexandria (16-4) third and Brainerd (11-5) fourth.

The Elks are the only team in the section with no games against other section teams.

On Monday, No. 7 Sauk Rapids-Rice (9-8) meets No. 10 Moorhead (4-11) in Elk River at 4 p.m., witn the winner facing the Elks at 6 p.m.

The four quarterfinal winners in Monday’s single-elimination games will advance to double-elimination next Monday and Wednesday to be hosted by the highest seed.
