Elk River placed second, albeit 40 strokes behind the champion, at the Duluth East Invitational girls golf tournament on Friday.
Despite not having their top shooter for the season, the Elks scored 363 for the runner-up slot behind Edina (323) among 11 teams.
Samantha Lindeen of the Elks was individual runner-up with 81. Mary Elmquist shot 86, Alexa Filipiak 96 and Miranda Ray 100 for the other counting scores.
Morgan Bleyhl, the team’s most frequent low shooter, missed the meet with a sinus problem.

The Elks will close NWSC play with a quad meet at home Monday and the full conference meet Friday at Bunker Hills.
