Elk River’s seventh-place finish among 16 teams at the Red Wing Invitational on Tuesday was very satisfactory to the Elks coach.
“That’s a really strong tournament. The top five teams in the state were there,” said Dave Bleyhl. “Detroit Lakes, good grief, they counted four scores in the 70’s and threw out an 81. We didn’t even have an 81.”
Detroit Lakes shot 311, Red Wing 333 and New Prague 338, with New Prague’s Mckenzie Neisen snagging the medal with 71.
The Elks shot 354, led by Morgan Bleyhl with 84. Samantha Lindeen and Mary Elmquist shot 87s and Morgan Dietrichs 96.
The Elks will host Blaine, a team likely to end their string of four straight conference titles, in a dual meet Thursday.
