Nick Johnson’s grand slam was the big blow as the Elk River Elks kept rolling with a 16-4 rout of the Armstrong Falcons on Tuesday in Robbinsdale.
“Nick got all of that one,” said coach Ryan Holmgren about the smash to straightaway left field with bases loaded that capped an eight-run third inning. It was the third homer for Johnson, a senior outfielder.
Brandon Meyer pitched a five-inning complete game, weathering seven hits, one walk and four hit-batters. He struck out seven.
The Elks (11-1) punched 14 hits, with Porter Morrell going 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI singles and scoring two runs. Meyer was 2-for-3 with three runs, Brady Givens 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs, and Erik Nyquist 2-for-4. Jordan Hollom had an RBI single.
Andover had seven errors, three of them in the first inning when the Elks took a 5-0 lead.
