The Rogers Royals placed second behind Spring Lake Park at the Purple Hawk Invitational on Monday in Cambridge, while Elk River placed ninth and Zimmerman 14th among 19 teams.
Rogers’ Rocky Nelson and Kyle Korva tied for fifth place with 76’s and Morgan Rask tied for seventh with 77. Dylan Kline was 11th with 79.
Spring Lake Park’s Pete Seinko shot 68 to earn the medal by five strokes.
“The boys played some very solid golf all day,” said Rogers coach Dan Bursheim, “but caught some bad breaks along the way. One played the wrong ball after a playing partner played his ball, two others went into water twice, and triple-bogied the holes.”
Kline was two under on the front nine, Korva was two under after 5 holes, and Nelson was even par with three holes to play.
“The boys didn’t quite finish all 18 holes and it cost them a winnable invitational,” said Bursheim, adding that Spring Lake Park is a section rival.
