Golf: Elk girls 2nd in two tournaments, beat Rebels in dual

Elk River girls golf has notched two second-place finishes in invitationals plus a conference dual meet win in the past five days.

“We’re starting to play pretty good,” said coach Dave Blehyl. “My top three have been solid.”

At the 24-team Coon Rapids Invitational on Thursday, the Elks tied for second with defending state champion New Prague at 358, trailing Red Wing by 10 strokes. Mary Elmquist shot 83, Morgan Bleyhl 86, Samantha Lindeen 94, and Morgan Deitrichs 95 for the Elks. Sharing the medal with 78’s were Lexi Bollant of Buffalo and Stephanie Herzog of Red Wing.

On a cold Saturday, the Elks shot 361 at the Staples-Motley Invitational for second behind Alexandria (348) and just ahead St. Cloud Cathedral (363). Bleyhl shot 86, Lindeen 88, Elmquist 91 and Alexa Filipiak 96.

The Elks beat the Champlin Park Rebels 185 to 200 in a NWSC dual at Edinburgh on Monday. Elmquist shot 42, Lindeen 43, Bleyhl 47 and Dietrichs 53.
