Porter Morrell, two-time MVP of the Elk River basketball team, has committed to Northwestern University of St. Paul.
The 6-2 point guard averaged 18.5 points and 4.8 assists as a senior and shot 42.6 percent on 3-pointers for a 20-9 Elk team. He was selected for the state all-star games.
Morrell said he felt comfortable with Northwestern coach Tim Grosz and the Eagles’ team-oriented style of play.
“Also, the opportunity to have a good chance to play right away,” added Morrell. “And the Christian atmosphere that I’m going to be surrounded by.”
Northwestern, located in Roseville, had a 21-7 record last year. Currently called Northwestern College, it will switch to university status next year.
