Elk River and Spring Lake Park took turns banging the ball around the park until the Elks emerged with a 16-15 win Saturday morning.
Fortunately for the Elks, their closer Brady Givens stayed unscored-upon for the season amid all that. Givens protected the lead in the last of the seventh with three strikeouts after an opening single, and now has seven shutout innings in six appearances.
Brandon Meyer led the attack, going 4-for-5 with a solo homer, three runs, and three RBI.
Terry Hadden was 3-for-4 (two RBI, three runs), Nick Johnson 2-for-4 (three RBI), Porter Morrell 2-for-4 (two runs, RBI), Givens 2-for-4, two RBI), and Matt Baker 1-for-2 (two RBI).
Each team had 15 hits. SLP belted two homers, a three-run shot by Ryan Fink and a solo by Josh Rowe.
Elk starter Jordan Hollum pitched 2 1/3 innings (six runs, five earned) and Erik Nyquist threw 3 2/3 (eight runs, three earned).
