The Becker Bulldogs gave unbeaten Elk River-Rogers-Zimmerman a battle on Friday evening but ERZ prevailed in the non-conference match 11-10 at home.
“It was a highly-fought game but we were able to pull it out,” said coach Stephanie Anderson. “The girls played great defense and kept talking on the field and played as a team.”
Becker is 3-2, also losing to Osseo-Park Center 12-10, a team the Elks edged 15-12. They scored 17, 22 and 20 points in their three wins.
The Bulldogs rattled off five straight goals late in the first half to take a 6-4 lead, circling the net patiently and finding openings. The Elks were able to clamp down more defensively in the second half, led by Courtney Reistad, Alleah Baltzer, Kim Scott and Holly Skalsky.
Mackenzie Perna notched five goals, Emily Antony three, Alix Zierden two, and Baltzer and Skalsky one each for ERZ. Perna made two assists, and Antony and Baltzer one each.
Michelle Klimstra was in goal the first half, stopping nine 15 shots. Scott was in goal the second half, stopping five of nine.
ERZ (6-0) will play at Armstrong on Monday.
