A new festival is coming to Elk River.
The German Heritage Festival will run from 3-10 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at Lions Park, 1104 Lions Park Dr., Elk River. Admission is free.
The festival is the brainchild of Eileen Anderson of the Command Performance Choirs. She had hoped to take the choir to Bavaria this year, but too many members were unable to go for financial reasons.
“I thought if we can’t go there, we’ll just bring a little piece of it here,” said Anderson, whose grandfather was German and Austrian.
The heritage festival will feature continuous German-related music from 3-10 p.m. Other attractions will include a Grimm brothers fairy tale tent with characters telling stories, face painting, hair braiding, bouncy houses and carnival games. Brats, beer and fair food like cotton candy, caramel apples and popcorn will be for sale by the Elk River Lions.
Other participating organizations include the Command Performance Choirs, Elk River Community Theatre, Youth Theatre Workshop, Boys and Girls Club and Elk River Parks and Recreation.
The Bavarian Musikmeisters will also perform at 6:30 p.m.
