Softball: Royals split the Cambridge-Isanti, win 8-1 and lose 3-0

The Rogers Royals battled two a split with Cambridge-Isanti in a Mississippi 8 softball doubleheader Tuesday in Cambridge. The Royals are 3-3 in conference and 6-4 overall.

Royals 8, Bluejackets 1

The Royals cruised 8-1 in the opener, sparked by Elli Anderson’s bases-loaded triple in the fourth inning, and Katelyn Kemmetmueller’s pitching.

Madi Anderson was 3-for-4 (three runs, RBI), Elli Anderson 2-for-4, and Olivia Olson 1-for-2 (three runs, two steals). Kemmetmueller and Madie Mikolich each had a hit and RBI.

Kemmetmueller threw a five-hitter with three walks and nine strikeouts. Jessica Golden took the loss, giving up seven runs (two earned) in 3 2/3 innings.

Bluejackets 3, Royals 0

Game two had different pitchers, with Cambridge-Isanti freshman Kate Hanson quelling the Royals bats with a two-hitter, no walks and six strikeouts. She got the decision over Emma Swanson of Rogers, who also walked none and limited the Bluejackets to six hits, striking out one.

The Bluejackets got all three runs in the first with a single by Abby Glotzbach knocking in two of them. Kendall Sandberg and Sydney Larkin each had two hits for C-I. The Rogers hits were singles by Olson and Madi Anderson.
