Rogers student wins Third Congressional District arts competition

Kendra Hambleton, senior at Rogers, won first place in the Third Congressional District High School Art Competition, announced teacher Su Sebghati.

Hambelton’s winning entry was an acrylic painting called “Catch a Dream.” The theme for this year’s contest was “Minnesota.”

Her painting depicted dream catchers blowing in the wind.

“We have never done this well at this competition, and this is a great award for Kendra,” said Sebghati. “She has a nice, loose, mature, painterly style.”

Hambleton got one of the two top prizes. There was also a Grand Prize won by a Park Center student.

Awards were presented April 30 at Bloomington Theatre and Art Center by Congressman Erik Paulsen. Nine high schools participated

Hambleton received a $100 cash award and $100 gift card for Master Framers.

Hambleton and other Rogers students now look ahead to the Mississippi 8 Conference Art Competition on May 9 in Big Lake, and Rogers Arts Night on May 20.
