Kendra Hambleton, senior at Rogers, won first place in the Third Congressional District High School Art Competition, announced teacher Su Sebghati.
Hambelton’s winning entry was an acrylic painting called “Catch a Dream.” The theme for this year’s contest was “Minnesota.”
Her painting depicted dream catchers blowing in the wind.
“We have never done this well at this competition, and this is a great award for Kendra,” said Sebghati. “She has a nice, loose, mature, painterly style.”
Hambleton got one of the two top prizes. There was also a Grand Prize won by a Park Center student.
Awards were presented April 30 at Bloomington Theatre and Art Center by Congressman Erik Paulsen. Nine high schools participated
Hambleton received a $100 cash award and $100 gift card for Master Framers.
Hambleton and other Rogers students now look ahead to the Mississippi 8 Conference Art Competition on May 9 in Big Lake, and Rogers Arts Night on May 20.
