The Rogers Royals eked out a 1-0 win over Monticello in game one led by Katelyn Kemmetmueller, then cruised 14-4 in game two led by Emma Swanson, on Thursday in Monticello.
Kemmetmueller fired a four-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts and just one walk. She also had a single and two walks at the plate, and knocked in the game’s lone run in the first inning.
Monticello’s Esther Watson kept it close as she pitched in and out of trouble after that, leaving 10 runners on base as she allowed seven hits and five walks. Elli Anderson was 2-for-3 for the Royals.
Kemmetmueller, a freshman, has struck out 40 batters in 22 innings, leading the Royals to a 5-1 start.
Swanson, a sophomore, went 5-for-5 in the second game and pitched the distance as coach Jerry Bruns gave Kemmetmueller’s arm a rest.
Swanson yielded six hits and two walks, with one strikeout, and punched out four singles and a double, knocking in three runs.
The Royals banged out 15 hits, with Emily Hanford 4-for-4 (two RBI), Olivia Olson 3-for-4 (two RBI), Kemmetmueller 2-for-4 (two RBI), and Madi Grady 2-for-3 (RBI). Anderson had a hit and two RBI.
Magic starter Bret Hulett was tagged for eight runs and Watson for six.
Rogers will play at a Sauk Rapids tournament on Saturday.
