The Taste of Elk River has a new home.
The eighth annual event will be held at the Sherburne County Fairgrounds in Elk River.
The event will be 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 16. The Elk River Rotary’s marquis fundraising event highlights area food establishments serving delicious entree, wine and spirit samples for those 21 years of age and older.
It has become known as a reunion of the Elk River community.
The first seven Tastes were at Lions Park in Elk River, which proved to be a difficult site in the event of rain, and city of Elk River officials frowned on driving tent stakes into a relatively new pavement at the Lions Park Center that provided more solid footing.
Elk River Rotarian Lynn Caswell approached the Sherburne County Fair Board.
“They jumped at it,” said Nicole Rasmussen, a fellow Rotarian and the co-chair of the event. “They loved the idea of having another use for their facilities and grounds.”
Rotarians like it because it will not only provide more space, it will also provide ample covered space as well as outdoor space. Add better and closer parking options for the event, and Rasmussen said the venue is a recipe for “expanded horizons.”
This year’s signature sponsor is Fairview Northland Medical Center in Princeton and the Elk River Fairview Clinic. The platinum sponsor is Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. There are another 13 sponsors helping make the event a reality.
Tickets are $25 ($30 at the door), and that covers everything a guest can eat and drink as well as the entertainment.
Jared Schreifels and Chuck Skajewski will perform, and there will also be a Karaoke contest.
They are available from all Elk River Rotarians and at various locations throughout Elk River. They are also available online at www.elkrivermnrotary.org. The Taste of Elk River also has a Facebook page.
The funds raised at the event will go toward local and international projects.
