Mary Elizabeth Opay, 67

Mary Elizabeth Opay, age 67 of Monticello and formerly of Elk River, died on Monday, April 15, 2013, at Hennepin County Medical Center of Minneapolis. 

Visitation will be Friday, April 19, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, 250 East Broadway, Monticello. Further visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Saturday. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, April 20, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Church of St. Andrew, 566 4th Street NW, Elk River.  Fr. Lauren Germann will officiate. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Nowthen. Funeral arrangements are with the Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel of Monticello.

Mary was born on August 26, 1945, in Norman, Oklahoma to Stanley F. and Betty (Garvey) Galaska.  She grew up in Omaha, Nebraska where she attended high school and college. On May 29, 1969, she was united in marriage to Jerry Opay.  She worked as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital of Coon Rapids for over 30 years.  The couple had made their home in Elk River and recently moved to Monticello.  She greatly enjoyed traveling and in particular time spent on cruise ships.             
Mary is survived by her husband, Jerry Allan;  sons, Jerry (Kim), Gregory (Heather), Michael (Richelle); daughters, Katie Suitter, Kelly (Keith) Ross; 15 grandchildren; brothers, Pat (Debbie) Galaska, Mark (Cindy) Galaska; sisters, Betty (Joe) Ziskovsky and Ann (Phil) Wilson. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Betty Galaska; and brother Mike.
