Elk River Police are investigating a crash from over the weekend in which a car veered off Highway 10 Saturday night and crashed into the former Elk Motel.

Tracks can be seen leading up to the end unit of the apartment complex, where the vehicle struck a vacant apartment.

The car came down an embankment, crossed a trail and crashed through the end unit of the former motel that has been converted into a seven-unit apartment building in Elk River.

The accident involving a female motorist happened around 7:15 p.m., according to the Elk River Police Department.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital for treatment. It’s unknown why she left the roadway.

The owner of the building, Darlene Enright, told KARE 11 a new tenant was just in the process of moving in and lost many valuables in the crash.

Enright said the unit will be condemned but that the rest of the building is structurally sound.
