Three Rivers Soccer Association’s U17 C1 girls team won two of three matches and placed second in an Illinois tournament last weekend.
The TRSA team had a 1-0 loss, then victories of 1-0 and 4-0, at the PUMA Champions Cup in Rockford, against Illinois and Indiana teams. They were to play a 3-0 Ohio team with a chance to grab the championship, but the game was canceled due to field conditions.
Emma Tritten, defender from Elk River, was the TRSA coaches’ pick for team MVP. Rachel Mynahan of Elk River scored in the 3-1 loss. Brittany Dorn of Rogers scored (penalty kick) in the 1-0 win played in wind and rain, with Zimmerman’s Justine Charles in goal for the shutout. Charles had another shutout in the 4-0 win while Erin Ness of Elk River, Tessa Quintaville of Rogers, Morgan Forgarty and Sydney McClure of Chaska, and Savanah Belknap of Anoka had goals and/or assists.
“Our team accomplished three of our four main goals this weekend and played impressive soccer,” said Aaron Lindquist, who shares coaching duties with Nico Valezquez. “Our ball possession and defending was outstanding throughout the weekend, which is something we pride ourselves on.”
The team will play in the Minnesota State Cup in early May.
Other team members are Jenna Trochlil, Taylor Gunderson, Jordan Boyd, Maddy Pippin, Janaye Rouillard and Taylor Gunderson of Rogers; Mallory Adams and Lexi Dietl of Elk River; and Natalie Frier of Chaska.
