Tennis: Elks beat Shakopee 4-3 in opener

The defending state champion Elk River tennis team won its 2013 opener over Shakopee 4-3 on Saturday.

The event was supposed to be a four-team round robin outdoors but was rained out. Elk River and Shakopee coaches agreed to play a dual indoors at Lifetime Fitness.

Winning in straight sets were Josh Gearou, Sam, Gearou, and Josh Chuba at 1-2-3 singles and Tyler Creelman and Nick Tran at 3-doubles.

Nathan Chanthamontry at 3-singles and Noah Steichen-Joe Weatherille at 1-doubles lost in straight sets, and Zeke Delain-Jordan Haack at 2-doubles lost in 3 sets.
