There will be an organizational meeting Thursday, April 11, to begin coordinating the volunteer effort to pull off Hockey Day Minnesota at the Handke Pit in downtown Elk River.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the commons at Elk River High School.
The meeting will be designed to begin fielding chairpersons and volunteer participants from the community.
The plan is to divide the effort into facility development (led by the city of Elk River), fundraising/marketing (overseen by the school district), volunteers, ticketing and marketing (overseen by Elk River Youth Hockey), lodging, meals, concessions, merchandising and a formal banquet for participants.
Hockey Day Minnesota will be more than just a one-day event but rather drawn out over a week.
“This is not just an Elk River project,” Elk River Area School District Superintendent Mark Bezek said.
One hope is to have a Rogers hockey game on the Friday night before Hockey Day Minnesota. Many other events are being considered.
