Community-wide vacation Bible school planned for July

There are plans in the works for a community-wide vacation Bible school.

Central Lutheran Church, River of Life, Church of Hope, Twin Lakes Christian and Christ Church have joined together to plan the vacation Bible school for July 14-18. They are hoping for 400 to 500 children, and the plan is to hold it in the evenings to get more fathers involved than the daytime vacation Bible schools attract.

“We really like to have dads involved,” said Michaela Langlais, River of Life’s director of children and family ministries, who came up with the idea and began bouncing it off other children’s ministry leaders.

“This is something that has been on my heart,” Langlais said.

Langlais and Kirsten Gill, Central Lutheran’s director of children and family ministries, presented the plan to the Elk River Parks and Recreation Commission to get approval for the use of Lions Park.

The plan is to make use of Lions Park Center, the band shell, the open spaces including the ball field and shelters around the park.

The VBS sessions will be from about 6 to 8:30 p.m. for children as young as 4 years of age to fifth or sixth grade, Gill said. Children do not have to be members of one of the participating churches to be registered. Watch for more details.
