Police report: His fascination with guns, war worries school

Elk River police were called to an Elk River elementary school this past week by the staff there to assist their discussion with a student who has an apparent fascination with firearms and war.

The student explained his interest in history and warfare, according to the incident complaint report. The fourth-grade student also explained that he spends a significant amount of time playing X-Box games Assassins Creed and multiple Call of Duty video games. Police documented the matter.

Otsego man, 45, arrested for warrant 

A 45-year-old Otsego man was arrested for driving after cancellation and having a Hennepin County warrant after a traffic stop at about 8 p.m. Feb. 17 near the intersection of Highway 169 and Main Street. The plates were removed from the vehicle, and the vehicle was released to a valid driver.

Andover man, 26,  arrested for DWI

Elk River police arrested a 26-year-old Andover man for DWI after a traffic stop about 2:30 a.m. Feb. 17 for speeding, failure to signal a lane change, and crossing fog and center lines in the area of Highway 169 and Main Street.

Marijuana and drug paraphernalia were also located in the vehicle and $432 cash was seized for forfeiture. Police also began the process for seizing the vehicle.

Red-light runner,  passenger cited

A 20-year-old Zimmerman man was cited for underage consumption of alcohol and another 20-year-old Zimmerman man was arrested Feb. 17 for DWI after being stopped for speeding and failure to stop at a red light at the intersection of Highway 169 and 193rd Avenue.

Items taken from car at local movie theater

A 17-year-old North Branch girl reported at 12:11 a.m. Feb. 17 items stolen from her vehicle while at the Elk River movie theater, 570 Freeport Ave. One bag contained a math book, calculator and a folder. The other bag was a black Mizuno bag with volleyball knee pads, arm sleeve and black Mizuno shoes. The incident occurred between 9:50 p.m. and 12:05 a.m.

Alleged Wal-Mart thief leaves with merchandise

A 43-year-old Ramsey woman was arrested about 11 p.m. Feb. 17  for theft after she allegedly took more than $1,300 in merchandise from Wal-Mart.

Troy Street business has computer swiped

A 60-year-old female from Elk River reported Feb. 16 the theft of a laptop computer from inside her business in the 18700 block of Troy Street. Entry was made from the rear, where pry marks were found on the door. The loss was estimated at $1,000.

Princeton man, 35, arrested for DWI

A 35-year-old Princeton man was arrested Feb. 16 for DWI in the 20000 block of Highway 169 after an officer on patrol observed the motorist about 2 a.m. cross fog line several times while traveling northbound.

The man was transported to the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office jail, and his vehicle was held for forfeiture.

Bad day at Wal-Mart

Ever have one of those days where you forget where you parked your car in a shopping center parking lot?

A 40-year-old Elk River woman had one of those days on the afternoon of Feb. 17, only she reported to police shortly before 5 p.m. that day that her 7-year-old daughter was missing inside Wal-Mart.

The woman told police the last place she remembered seeing her daughter was in the bathroom.

It was later determined, however, that the child was with her aunt at a play and not with the mother.  Police confirmed the child was safe, according to Elk River Police Capt. Bob Kluntz.

The mother of the complainant was called and reported her daughter had been under a lot of stress lately. The complainant was transported to Mercy Hospital for an evaluation.

Elk River woman, 39, arrested for DWI

A 39-year-old Elk River woman stopped in the area of Twin Lakes Road and Line Avenue Feb. 16 for an inoperable driver’s headlight and suspended objects was arrested for DWI.

Smartphone taken from dumb locker

A 42-year-old Elk River woman reported at 6:01 p.m. Feb. 15 the theft of a smartphone and other items from her unlocked locker at the Elk River YMCA, 13337 Business Center Drive.

Nowcare reports suicidal man

Employees at Nowcare reported on the evening of Feb. 15 they had a male party who was having suicidal thoughts and requested Elk River Police and Ambulance to respond. The patient said that he has been having suicidal thoughts for three to four months and a few days ago said that if he had access to a firearm he would use it. The patient also said that he thinks co-workers are after him, and he’s had thoughts of hurting them as well. The patient went to Mercy for a voluntary crisis hold.

Ramsey woman cited for Wal-Mart theft 

A 45-year-old Ramsey woman was cited on the evening of Feb. 15 for theft after she allegedly took over $150 in items from Wal-Mart.

Two men report being assaulted by males

A 21-year-old Princeton man and an 18-year-old Elk River man reported to police Feb. 15 that they were assaulted by several males while at a home in the 21000 block of Fresno Street. The assault occurred after the alleged suspects accused the victims of stealing liquor.

Valentine’s Day theft reported by man

A 29-year-old Elk River man reported on the night of Feb. 14 the theft of tools, fishing gear and sports equipment from an unattached garage in the 1100 block of School Street.

Minneapolis women arrested for fraud

Two females from Minneapolis were arrested by police after bank employees contacted officers Feb. 14 suspecting they had tried to pass fraudulent checks. One was 24 years old and the other was 36 years old. Police had received a call earlier in the day that indicated several people had tried to cash similar fraudulent checks at another branch.

Elk River storage sheds broken into

A 43-year-old Elk River man reported to police that his storage unit was broken into on Feb. 14, but nothing was taken due to the unit in the 15000 block of Edison Street being empty.

The lock had been cut off the storage shed and the mechanism on the door was damaged.

There were three other garage stalls broken into in that same vicinity.

One individual lost tools, a bike, a ladder, collector cards and jewelry.  Police are still trying to identify the other owners of units that were entered.

Partners in domestic both arrested

Elk River police were called at 4:32 p.m. Feb. 15 to the parking lot of El Amigos, a restaurant in the 18000 block of Business Center Drive, on a report of an assault.  They later located the male, a 29-year-old Elk River man, and he was arrested on a warrant out of Wright County. The female party, a 27-year-old Albertville woman, was arrested for domestic assault.

Big Lake man, 44, cited after traffic stop

A 44-year-old Big Lake man was cited at 6:39 p.m. Feb. 17 for driving after suspension, no proof of insurance and failing to signal a turn at the intersection of Main Street and Zane Street.

Man on railroad tracks cited for DAS

A 42-year-old Fridley man was cited for driving after suspension after being seen traversing the railroad tracks against a red light shortly before 10 p.m. Feb. 14 at Jackson Avenue and the Railroad tracks.

Police investigate Feb. 15 assault

A 48-year-old Elk River man was allegedly assaulted about 3:30 a.m.  Feb. 15 by two males.  The complainant called about 7 p.m. from a residence in the 21000 block of Fresno Street. The victim had some small cuts near the right corner of his mouth and had a black (right) eye. Police are investigating.

Anoka woman, 28, arrested for DUI

A 28-year-old Anoka woman was arrested for DWI after being observed  making an improper turn on westbound 193rd Avenue onto Highway 169 about 2:10 a.m. Feb. 15.
