City honors Doug Wellner as he retires

In a decade working as a building inspector for the city of Elk River, Doug Wellner did 23,000 inspections.

He was honored at the Tuesday, Feb. 19 City Council meeting as he retires. He last day with the city is Feb. 22.

Building Official Bob Ruprecht said Wellner has brought a wealth of experience to the job. Over the years he worked on the pipeline in Alaska, sold tools and lumber and has been a high school sports referee.

Ruprecht described Wellner as a great storyteller who has a lot of common sense and integrity.
