Kaylee Jondahl will be Elk River-Rogers-Zimmerman gymnastics’ lone representative at the state meet, after the Elk senior placed second all-around and won vault and bars at Section 8AA on Saturday.
Elk River was team runner-up behind St. Cloud Tech, and Rogers placed sixth among eight teams in the meet hosted by Tech.
“We had a good meet, we performed very well and I am very proud of both teams,” said coach Jackie Deiley. “We have had a wonderful season. Kaylee qualified for state in all four events and all-around.”
Deiley added that a trio of Zimmerman team members did well at Section 7A in Monticello earlier in the day, too, but she didn’t have final results yet.
Jondahl won vault with 9.75 and uneven parallel bars with 9.60. She placed second on floor with 9.5 and fourth on beam with 9.15. Her all-around score was 38.00.
Tech’s Moriah Miller won beam (9.475) and floor (9.6) and edged Jondahl for the all-around title (38.025).
The top team, and the top four in each event, advance to state.
Jondahl will compete in Class AA individuals next Saturday evening at the University of Minnesota. It will be her second trip to the state high school meet. She was fourth all-around and second in two events as a freshman before returning to club the last two years.
St. Cloud Tech won the section crown with 148.675 points. The Elks with 137.95 eked out the runner-up spot ahead of Moorhead’s 137.775 and Brainerd’s 137.025.
Following were St. Cloud Apollo 136.65, Rogers 131.975, Buffalo 131.025, and St. Michael-Albertville 128.35.
Elk River freshman Krista Kovar placed sixth on beam (9.1) and ninth all-around (34.475). She just missed the top 16 in floor with 8.60.
Elk senior Jessica Sadlowsky was 15th on beam (8.4) and tied for 16h on floor (8.65).
Leading Rogers was junior Katie Fleck, who placed seventh all-around (34.65), sixth on beam (9.1) and ninth on vault (9.10), and tied for 16th on floor (8.65).
Royal eighth-grader Morgan Wallmow placed 15th all-around (32.975) and 15th on bars (8.125).
Also competing for Elk River were sophomore Katie Hartneck, senior Lindsey Koosman and eighth-grader Kaitlyn Krizich. Also competing for Rogers were sophomore Sydney Fay, junior Corynn Stelflug, and senior Kendra Hambleton. The Zimmerman group was freshman Molly McChesney, sophomore Lexi Stepan and seventh-grader Amanda Mager.
It was the final meet for Elk veterans Koosman, Hambleton and Sadlowsky.
